Atmospheric river lifecycle characteristics shaped by synoptic conditions at genesis

چکیده
The range of synoptic patterns that North Pacific landfalling atmospheric rivers form under are objectively identified using genesis day 500 hPa geopotential height anomalies in a self-organizing map (SOM). SOM arranges the to differentiate between two groups climate modes—the first group with ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation), PDO (Pacific Decadal PNA American) and NP (North index) second AO (Arctic EPO (East WPO (West Oscillation). These have their positive negative modes organized opposite corners SOM. ARs produced each distinct lifecycle characteristics (such as landfall location, duration, velocity, meridional/zonal movement) precipitation impacts (magnitude spatial distribution). conditions favour AR trajectories closer tropics tend produce higher amounts precipitation. large-scale circulation associated shows close relationship location intensity upper-level jet west/central pacific well anomalous, low-level southwesterly winds east pacific.

Asymmetry of atmospheric microstructure over synoptic scales
Distortions are often seen in the angular distribution of echo-power from VHF wind-profiling radars, suggesting that thin stable layers, within the air flow, are distorted and tilted from horizontal. In vertical shear of the horizontal wind, the distribution of the layer tilt angles becomes skewed. A case study using six days of VHF radar data and synoptic charts above western Europe indicates ...
متن کاملIncreasing synoptic scale variability in atmospheric CO2 at Hateruma Island associated with increasing East-Asian emissions
In-situ observations of atmospheric CO2 and CH4 at Hateruma Island (24.05 N, 123.80 E, 47 m a.s.l), Japan shows large synoptic scale variations during a 6-month period from November to April, when the sampled air is predominantly of continental origin due to the Asian winter monsoon. Synoptic scale variations are extracted from the daily averaged values for the years between 1996 and 2007, alon...

متن کاملInfrasound Propagation Calculation Techniques Using Synoptic and Mesoscale Atmospheric Specifications
Numerical modeling of infrasound propagation is necessary to support accurate infrasound source location and phase identification. Predicting the details of infrasound propagation relies both on propagation models that capture the fundamental physical processes and on characterization of the propagation medium, namely the global atmosphere from the ground to altitudes above 100 km. The accuracy...

Two-phase heat transfer is experimentally examined through vertical small diameter tubes, D =1.45 and 2.8 mm using water under a pressure of 50 to 81 kPa and a natural circulation condition. The pool boiling correlation by Stephan-Abdelsalam and the thermosyphon boiling correlation by Imura, et al. predict the measured experimental data in the 2.8 mm tube with an error of -30%. A large heat tra...
